Serpil Mavi Üstün

Serpil Mavi Üstün graduated in 2008 from the Neş’e Erdok Studio at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. During her studies, she also participated in Hüsnü Koldaş’s workshops on antique mosaics, frescoes, and sgraffito. She bases her works on the shared routines and habits of people living alone. She creates fragile, anxious, and conflicted characters that suddenly disrupt ideal, enjoyable, or seemingly ordinary moments. She held three solo exhibitions in Istanbul, the first of which was in 2013. Since 2006, she has been invited to group exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Paris, Milan, and New York. Her works were featured in two solo exhibitions in London in 2018 and 2019. In recent years, Mavi’s works have been part of group exhibitions such as “Another Round” at Galeri Nev as part of the 17th Istanbul Biennial’s parallel events, at Mrs. Gallery in New York, and at The Artist Room Gallery in London. In 2023, her solo exhibition titled "No Added Sugar" opened at Long Story Short Gallery in New York. In 2024, she was invited to participate in the exhibitions “The Beginning of Memory” in (Istanbul, Ark Kültür) and "A Memory Surfaces" in Ankara (Kırlangıç Sokak), both organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Galeri Nev. Serpil Mavi Üstün has been continuing her work in London since 2016.
