Founded in Ankara in 1984, Galeri Nev is dedicating the final months of 2024 to their 40th anniversary celebrations. Having launched their first exhibition with Abidin Dino, the gallery—now with over three hundred exhibitions to their name—is preparing to host another Abidin Dino exhibition titled "A Memory Surfaces" in Ankara in mid-November.
Titled after Dino’s first letter to Galeri Nev, the exhibition showcases exceptional ink drawings, watercolors from various periods, and prints from the "The Last Traces" series created to commemorate his centennial. In addition, the gallery is unveiling the 'Tomato' prints from the archive, which were created back in 1984 and were considered radical even for Abidin Dino himself. Galeri Nev now invites contemporary artists to reimagine and reinterpret these pieces. “A Memory Surfaces” thus establishes an encounter, a dialogue, and perhaps a critique between the year the gallery was founded and the present day, after forty years.
