Eda Gecikmez graduated from the Department of Painting at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a year at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain. She later pursued her Master's degree in Art and Design at the Institute of Social Sciences of the Yıldız Technical University. Gecikmez has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "Dystopic 1984," dedicated to George Orwell, organized by Galeri Nev in 2014; "Playground" in 2015 as part of the NevGeneration series ; "Angel’s Share" in 2017 as a Parallel Event of the 15th Istanbul Biennial at Istanbul DEPO; "Age og Gold" in 2019, celebrating the 35th anniversary of Galeri Nev; and "Another Round" in 2022, as as a Parallel Event of the 17th Istanbul Biennial at Kendi Koleksiyonu. Her first solo exhibition, titled "Borrowed Unity," was held in 2013 at the American Hospital Gallery in Istanbul. In 2015, Gecikmez was invited to the Mardin Biennale and took part in artist residencies at Cittadellarte in Italy and Kultivera in Sweden. During the 2016-2017, she participated in the Home Workspace Program, organized by Ashkal Alwan in Beirut, Lebanon, with the support of SAHA. In 2023, she took part in the ISCP program in New York, also supported by SAHA. Gecikmez's solo exhibitions include "Capsule Landscape" in 2018 and "Broken Open" in 2020 at Galeri Nev, as well as "The Bird is Invisible, But Its Sound is in the Tree" in 2022 at the Goethe-Institut. Her works were recently featured in "The Beginning of Memory" at Ark Kültür in Istanbul and "A Memory Surfaces" at Kırlangıç Sokak in Ankara, held in celebration of Galeri Nev's 40th anniversary. Eda Gecikmez continues her artistic practice in Ankara and Istanbul.
