Eda Gecikmez graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University’s Painting Department. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a year at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and later pursued an MA in Art and Design at Yıldız Technical University's Graduate School of Social Sciences. Gecikmez has been a prominent participant in numerous group exhibitions organized by Galeri Nev, including “Dystopian 1984” which referenced George Orwell’s eponymous novel in 2014, the fourth NEVGENERATION exhibition “Amusement Park” in 2015, “Angels’ Share” at Istanbul DEPO in 2017, as a parallel event to the 15th Istanbul Biennial, “Age of Gold” in 2019 celebrating Galeri Nev’s 35th anniversary, and “Another Round” in 2022, in collaboration with Kendi Collection, concurrent with the 17th Istanbul Biennial. Her debut solo show, “Borrowed Togetherness” was showcased at the American Hospital Gallery, Operation Room in Istanbul in 2013. Additionally, Gecikmez was invited to the Mardin Biennial in 2015, the same year she joined the Cittadellarte residency in Italy and the Kultivera residency in Sweden. With the support of SAHA, she also participated in the Home Workspace Program organized by Ashkal Alwan in Lebanon from 2016 and 2017 and the ISCP residency program in New York in 2023. Her solo exhibitions, “Landscape in a Capsule” in 2018 and “Broken Open” in 2020, were held at Galeri Nev, while “The Bird is Unseen, yet its Voice is in the Tree” was presented at the Goethe Institute Ankara, Gallery Showcase in 2022. More recently, her works featured as a cameo at the Nejad Devrim exhibition “Un Soleil Perdu Dans l’Orage”. Eda Gecikmez currently divides her time between Ankara and Istanbul, where she continues to work.
